UCLA Fund Thanks Our Volunteer Leaders

The UCLA Fund wishes to thank our Executive Committee chair Andrew E. Katz '69, J.D. '72 and our Parents' Fund co-chairs, Mia Levi '77 and Evan Levi, whose terms will end on June 30.

Andy has been a Chancellor's Associate and volunteer for over 10 years. During his tenure as Executive Committee chair, Andy provided critical guidance and wisdom. The UCLA Fund has grown nearly 10 percent in Andy's two-year term. We are deeply grateful for his tireless dedication and leadership.

During the Levis' tenure, the Parents' Fund reached $1 million for the first time in history. The Levis brought much warmth and enthusiasm to welcoming new families into the Bruin family. We greatly appreciate the dedicated service they have provided.

On March 31, Chancellor's Associates and their families gathered for an exclusive weekend of fun and camaraderie at Bruin Woods, UCLA's beautiful conference center at Lake Arrowhead. Activities such as hiking, cooking classes, tennis, relaxing by the fire and cheering the basketball team to victory rounded out three days and two nights of Bruin relaxation.

Cabinet members enjoy a memorable evening at the Chancellor's residence. Carnesales Host "Outstanding Experience" for UCLA Fund Chancellor's Cabinet

On March 28, UCLA Fund Chancellor's Cabinet members and their guests enjoyed a memorable evening of dinner and world-class entertainment at the home of Chancellor and Mrs. Albert Carnesale. As a special treat, world-renowned cellist and professor from UCLA's Department of Music, Antonio Lysy, and five of his top students entertained guests with a remarkable musical performance. Professor Lysy also performed a duet with another student.

UCLA Fund Chancellor's Cabinet members Leah Bergman '69 and Greg Bergman '70 said,
"Top-notch musicians, engaging conversation with guests, and a beautiful setting combined to create an outstanding experience. We are constantly reminded of why UCLA is such a special place, and so deserving of our support."

Outstanding Service Awardee Chris Bradford '77 and Chancellor Albert Carnesale. Chancellor's Associates Reception at the Residence

On May 4, Chancellor and Mrs. Albert Carnesale honored the recipients of the UCLA Fund's Chancellor's Award for Outstanding Service at a reception in their home. The annual event pays tribute to Chancellor's Associates donors and volunteers whose exemplary support and participation were noteworthy throughout the past year. This year's honorees:
Chancellor Albert Carnesale congratulates Darryl Johnson '70 on earning an Outstanding Service Award. Chris Bradford '77 established meaningful connections among UCLA alumni, parents and friends that have been instrumental in strengthening the West L.A. region. He has served as Vice Chair of the UCLA Fund Executive Committee this year and as a member of the West L.A. Volunteer Committee of the Chancellor's Associates for the last nine years, four as regional Chair of the West Los Angeles committee.

Lori Behar's ('75) generosity in hosting events and meetings at her home and her skill in encouraging new Bruin supporters exemplifies the spirit of volunteer leadership at UCLA. As co-chair of the South Bay Volunteer Committee of the Chancellor's Associates this past year, Lori continually helps to build strong loyalty in this new region for the UCLA Fund.

Darryl Johnson's ('70) involvement with the South Bay Bruins and the Bruin Caucus, as well as his support for UCLA's athletic and academic programs, is a measure of his diverse interests and his concern for the future of UCLA. As past Chair of the UCLA Fund, and a member of the UCLA Foundation Board of Directors and the Chancellor's Associates South Bay committee, Johnson is a model for others to follow.

The UCLA Fund salutes these fine Bruin alumni for all they do in support of their alma mater.

The unrestricted funds raised support future generations of Bruins through student scholarships, undergraduate research, the recruitment and retention of outstanding faculty, and more.

Students can still contribute by pledging support with Senior Class Giving Committee volunteers on campus, or by visiting http://www.seniorclassgiving.ucla.edu through June 30.

Bruins reunite at Young Alumni Reunion. A Night of Bruin Disco Fun

A live band, DJ and amazing prizes drew UCLA alumni to campus on Saturday, May 20 for a glittery night of music and memories. This year's Young Alumni Reunion transformed Pauley Pavilion into a pulsing nightclub right on campus. Alumni from the classes of 2001-2006 reunited with fellow Bruins and socialized over food, drinks, chocolate fountains, casino-style games, music and more.

Chancellor's Associates welcome new Bruin families at intimate receptions in their homes. New Family Receptions

Each spring, Chancellor's Associates throughout California welcome new Bruin students and their families into their homes. These family receptions provide an opportunity for students to meet and bond with peers and for parents to learn about the many opportunities available through the UCLA Parents' Fund for becoming more involved with the university.

For the second year in a row, Diane and Mark Jensen, parents of Katharine Jensen '07, will open their beautiful Atherton home to new Bruin families this June. "Our passion for UCLA goes way back," Diane explains. "This is one way of giving back to the school that means so much to our family and to the community."

The Jensens encourage other parents to consider hosting Fund events as well. "It's such a positive experience," Diane adds. "UCLA is a big school, and this is our way of helping other parents connect to it more personally."
